Take Private Lessons

My goal as a teacher is to instill in every student a lifelong appreciation and respect for music and music‑making. I provide individualized instruction tailored to each student’s needs, helping them grow into confident, capable musicians. Through music, students also develop personal skills such as problem‑solving, accountability, and communication.

I teach students of all ages, including adults, with the youngest starting around age 10 or 11. Because many students switch to bassoon after learning another instrument, lessons are designed to support both true beginners and those transitioning from another musical background. Regardless of their experience levels, each student receives detailed instruction in bassoon technique, musicianship, and the basics of reed adjustment. Advanced students may also study reed-making in their lessons.

A typical lesson includes scale and long tone studies, etudes, solo and chamber repertoire, and sight‑reading through duets. I strive to create a welcoming lesson environment where students feel free to try new things, take risks, and learn through both mistakes and successes. All students are held to a high standard of preparation and engagement and are expected to practice regularly between lessons.

Performances are a regular part of private lessons. Students participate in studio recitals, audition for regional and all‑state ensembles, perform in their school ensembles, youth orchestras and wind ensembles, chamber ensembles, community ensembles, and attend summer music festivals.
